How to manually update Android apps

It is always recommended to update your apps manually instead of updating all of them automatically. Also if you find your mobile data plans costly and insufficient this might just help.

Just shortlist the apps that are essential and you use often and then simply manually update their versions. Updating apps manually is not a big ask, you can simply do it in few simple steps.

On the home-screen of your Android Smartphone or tablet look for the Google Play Store icon. If you do not find any such icon simply go to the app menu and search for it. Once you find it click on it and wait for it to open.

To access Google Play Store you need an active mobile data plan or a Wi-Fi connection. Once the Play Store opens you have to click on the menu button which is available at the top right hand side of the screen.

The appearance of the menu icon is like three square dots. When you click on it find the My Apps section in it.

As soon as you click on it a list of apps installed on your device is displayed. The list also informs about the available updates for the apps.

Now you can individually select apps you need to update and get an upgraded version by clicking the update tab after selecting the app, or you can make multiple selections and update in one go.

If you think all the apps should be updated then hit the button at the top to update them all together. Some apps specifically need manual updates so you have to upgrade them on individual basis.

At times you might not see any app, it only means that all your apps are up to date, their list is displayed at the bottom.

For updating multiple apps make sure you use a Wi-Fi connection because limited data plans might just interrupt the process. If you feel the apps you have are all essential and you have to regularly update them then you can tick on the auto update option.

It is in the Play Store, you have to click on menu and then find settings in it. In settings section you will find the auto update tab. But if you select it also select “Update over Wi-Fi only” option, it will definitely keep your insufficient data plan problems away.
